Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about AI discoverability and how Waymarker works.
What is AI discoverability?
When travellers ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or Perplexity for hotel recommendations, these platforms draw on structured data, reviews, editorial content, and digital footprint to decide which properties to mention. AI discoverability is how visible your hotel is in those answers.
Why does this matter now?
AI-powered search is growing rapidly. Travellers increasingly skip Google and ask an AI directly: "best design hotel in Berlin under €150." If your property isn't surfaced in those answers, you're invisible to a fast-growing segment of high-intent bookers.
How do you measure visibility?
We run real traveller queries across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity, then analyse whether your hotel is mentioned, in what position, how it's described, and which competitors appear instead. We combine this with technical checks on your structured data, content depth, review health, and digital footprint.
What does the audit cover?
The full audit scores your properties across five dimensions: LLM visibility (are you being recommended?), schema markup (structured data completeness), content depth (does your site answer the questions travellers ask?), review health (volume, recency, sentiment), and digital footprint (presence across platforms that LLMs index).
How is this different from SEO?
Traditional SEO optimises for Google's link-based ranking. AI discoverability optimises for how large language models synthesise and recommend. The signals overlap, particularly structured data and reviews, but the strategy, measurement, and competitive dynamics are distinct.
What platforms do you test?
We test across ChatGPT (with browsing enabled), Google Gemini (with grounding), Anthropic's Claude, and Perplexity. These are the four platforms travellers are most likely to use for trip planning.
How long does an audit take?
A typical audit for a hotel group with 5 to 15 properties takes one to two weeks from kickoff to report delivery. Larger groups with 30+ properties may take slightly longer.
What do I get in the report?
A detailed PDF report covering your overall visibility score, property-by-property breakdown, query-level results across all four platforms, technical gap analysis, competitive landscape, and a prioritised list of recommendations ranked by impact.
What does ongoing monitoring include?
Monthly re-runs of the full query set across all platforms, month-over-month trend tracking, competitor movement alerts, and a monthly report with updated scores and priority actions. We flag significant changes, both positive and negative, so you can act quickly.
Can you fix the issues you find?
We provide the strategy and detailed recommendations. Implementation depends on your team and tech stack. For schema markup and structured data, we can provide ready-to-deploy code. For content and review strategy, we work with your marketing team to prioritise and brief the work.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on property count and scope. A one-off audit starts from £2,500 for smaller groups. Ongoing monitoring retainers range from £1,500 to £7,000 per month. See our pricing page for details, or get in touch for a custom quote.
Who is this for?
Hotel groups with 5 to 50 properties who want to understand and improve their visibility in AI-powered search. We work primarily with commercial directors and marketing leads at mid-market European hotel groups.
